How lucky for us, one of the best art museums in Madrid, the Museo Thyssen-Bormisza had a special exhibit “Monet and Abstraction” on. I must say Bob was very patient as I scrutinized every painting! Amazing, over a dozen Monet's in one place. How do you beat that? Well...the Prado of course! But that will have to wait until we come back here as we leave for Toledo tomorrow by bus.
This is the Metropolis Building housing the winged statue of victory on top which is the victory symbol from Franco`s civil war.
We had a late start so there was not too much day left after the museum. We had lunch on Madrid time around 15:30 at La Cocina de Neptuno. Bob has discovered tapas calientes. Of course a vino tinto didn’t hurt!
Here is Bob sightseeing near the Puerta del Sol.
A leisurely stroll past the Prado down to the Puerto del Sol ended our first afternoon in Madrid. As I write this we sit across from the Teatro Royal sipping a cervasa. A little rest for the legs and feet and then more exploring.
This photo shows the entrance to the Plaza Isabella, one of the prettiest plazas in Madrid and there are many. It is taken at dusk as we walked along in front of the Plaza Real.
We finished off the night with a VERY late supper, a Madrideno speciality the boccadillo de calamari and churesco with the ever present vino tinto.
I am SO-O-O jealous!! We spent 2 crazy days in Seville for a friend's wedding but otherwise missed Spain on our European escapade...we always say we will go back, and from these pics Toledo will be top of the itinerary. Have a glass of rioja for us!
